Durham is thriving — visionaries are transforming downtown and tower cranes dot the horizon. Hometown builder, BridgePoint, is proud to be in the mix. In fact, BridgePoint Civil is getting down and dirty—prepping the site for the highly anticipated mixed-use development: 555 Mangum Street. Here is a #projectprogress sneak peak of our work:
Project Scope: BridgePoint Civil is currently under-construction on a turnkey site work package at 555 Mangum. Infrastructure includes grading and exporting 30,000 cy of dirt, shoring, and underground utilities including storm water and sanitary sewer.

The 555 Mangum Street project is located on a tight site—lodged between the Durham Freeway and downtown. BridgePoint Civil’s expertise with large, complex projects coupled with the ability to
collaborate with other subcontractors ensured success. BridgePoint exported 30,000 cy of soil and provided substantial stock piling on site. True to form, BridgePoint Civil coordinated these services and provided our client, Northwood Ravin, with an efficiently run site work package.

DURAHAM, NC – BridgePoint announced today that Cara Greening has joined the team to further develop new business for the company. BridgePoint has experienced significant growth in the last few years. Each of BridgePoint’s three businesses has expanded financially and in personnel. Among BridgePoint’s many accolades and acknowledgments – BridgePoint General Contracting was named to Triangle Business Journal’s Fast 50 list – ranked #12 in 2016. As of December 2016, the team has grown to 62 full-time employees.
On the heels of her company’s success, President Shelley McPhatter has decided to take the next step for growing her business – expanding her leadership team. Her most recent major hire is Cara Greening – Business Development Director. Cara will be the first to hold this role for BridgePoint and will be responsible for developing new business across all three BridgePoint entities – General Contracting, Civil and Construction Services.
“Cara’s experience in the construction industry brings tremendous value to the BridgePoint team. Her deep ties in the Triangle and beyond will compliment BridgePoint’s expansion and upward trajectory as we grow our capacity and expand our client base,” says McPhatter.
Greening joins the BridgePoint team after ending a 10-year post at a large construction company, also located in the Triangle. Her decision to move to BridgePoint was inspired by both BridgePoint’s growth and current leadership.
Greening isn’t shy about her enthusiasm for her new role; “BridgePoint provides a unique and exciting setting for me. We are locally owned, woman owned and invested in our community. Shelley built this company from scratch and her entrepreneurial spirit is contagious. I am honored to join a team with this level of dedication and care for both clients and community.”
McPhatter and Greening are a team to be reckoned with. With BridgePoint’s existing strengths in urban infill renovations, tenant up-fits and new vertical construction and Greening’s proven knack for putting it all together, it is clear that BridgePoint will be taking the Triangle by storm.

Scope of Project: Renovation of the Mezzanine Level of the historic Kress Building to create Gridworks – an exciting new take on the American Underground co-working model – in the heart of Downtown, Durham.
This project took form in remarkable time. The American Underground, Belk Architecture, and BridgePoint began design meetings in November of 2016. By March 2017, the Certificate of Occupancy was issued. The space presented some interesting challenges due to the age of the building. Unlike conventional commercial buildings with acoustical ceilings and drywall walls, the Mezzanine level of the Kress building has the original ornate plaster ceilings and walls. The plaster was left unchanged for this project, with only minimal restoration work to restore it to original condition. The effect creates a unique space that blends modern and 1930’s aesthetics. Additionally, the BridgePoint team found creative and budget conscious ways to install the new electrical, mechanical, and plumbing without cutting or demolition to the original building.

Scope of Project: Complete interior demolition and up-fit
This project consisted of a new prototype for DCRI based on a Workspace study conducted by Little Architecture. This project was a success as a result of a team effort. From design documents to furniture installation DCRI, Little Architecture (serving as architect and engineer), furniture vendors and BridgePoint all worked closely together to complete this project.
